The family is the first and most vital community of faith - the domestic church. It is within the home that faith takes root, love is learned, and virtue is nurtured. Every act of kindness, every prayer shared, and every lesson of forgiveness teaches the Gospel in daily life.
In the family, parents are the first teachers of the faith, leading by example through prayer, mercy, forgiveness, joy and virtue. Children, in turn, remind us to have an awe and wonder for God and to have simplicity of trust in Him. Together the family reflects the life and love of the Holy Trinity-a communion of persons united in love.
The domestic church is where holiness begins-at work and play, around the dinner table, in morning or bedtime prayers, and in moments of patience and sacrifice. When families live their faith with love, they build up the Body of Christ by strengthening their parish community and all of society.
"The family is the first and vital cell of society." - St. John Paul II
